![]() United States Senate WASHINGTON, DC April 12, 2008 MESSAGE FROM U.S. SENATOR DANIEL K. AKAKA I extend my warmest aloha and congratulations to the Cambodian Community in Hawaii on the occasion of Khmer New Year 2008. In the celebration of this national holiday, which originated from Bramhmanism, Cambodian traditons urge a time to celebrate Moha Sangkran of the first day. Khmer New Year is as much a time for thoughtful reflection of our past as it is for our future; a time of thanksgving as well as a time of hope and spiritual renewal. In our hopes and wishes for the future, we can also count our many blessings of family and friends with whom we can celebrate this holiday I take this opportunity to recognize the major contributions of the Cambodian community in Hawaii and the United States as a whole. Your theme for Khmer New Year 2008, “Hidden Treasures: Southeast Asians in Hawaii,” is an inspiration for the Cambodian Community to continue to share their culture and traditions of their homeland with the people of Hawaii. Again, my best wishes to you and your families on this occasion of Khmer New Year 2008. Aloha and soowa sdey chenam tmey! Aloha pumehana, |
