![]() United States Senate WASHINGTON, DC April 15, 2006 MESSAGE FROM U.S. SENATOR DANIEL K. AKAKA It is with great pleasure that I extend my warmest aloha and congratulations to the Cambodian Community in Hawaii on the occasion of Khmer New Year 2006. I welcome this opportunity to join the Cambodian community at this evening's celebration at Puuhale Elementary School. In the celebration of this national holiday, which originated from Bramhmanism, Cambodian traditions urge a time to celebrate Moha Sangkran on the first day, Wanabot on the second day, and Leung Sakk on the third day of Khmer New Year. Khmer New Year's is as much a time for thoughtful reflection of our past as it is for the future. Let us redidicate ourselves to one another, to our spouses, our children and our families. Let us work in our own ways to contribute to the betterment of the Cambodian community. On this occasion of Khmer New Year, may peace, harmony and happiness be with each and every one of you. Aloha and soowa sdey chenam tmey! Aloha pumehana, DANIEL K. AKAKA |
